Teacher is the second episode of Series 1 and was broadcast on 16 November 2009.

Summary[]

Miranda is so very British when it comes to sex, or shenanigans, as she likes to call it. Trying to overcome her hang-ups, she decides the way forward with Gary would be to create a romantic moment so he'll see her in a sexual light.

Stevie persuades Miranda to join an evening class to learn French, the language of love. She goes, only to discover it's run by her old school teacher, Mr Clayton, whom Stevie then starts dating, much to Miranda's horror.

When Miranda then sees that tango class is also being offered in continuing education, she asks Gary to join her for it. In class, however, the teacher takes her partner, literally shoving Miranda away and dancing with Gary herself, whom she called a natural.

Cookinglesson

When Gary and Miranda later argue, he is fed up with her taking his work for granted, and offers her cooking lessons. She then hopes to turn the lesson into a 'moment' with him, but it doesn't work. After they throw food on each other, there is no moment, just upset - it's only after they clean up and begin singing to the radio together that they are on the brink of the moment she wanted - only for Mr Clayton to emerge from the bedroom trouser-less, and shatter the hope.

Quotes[]

Gary: Actually, it's a really sweet story. They were friends at university, and they said they'd get married if they were still single at 40.
Miranda: She was his safety wife? People actually do that? They don't look 40.
Gary: They're not. He took her off to Paris last year and proposed.
Miranda: Do you have a safety wife?
Gary: No.Why, are you offering?
Miranda: Yes, please, very much so, thanks for asking, thank you please very much please.

---

Penny: Can I leave this with you? Your old diaries. Which I have to say, make very interesting reading.
Miranda: You read them?!
Penny: Of course. Like Anne Frank but more depressing.
